Gordon Del Giorno started Film Brothers Productions in 1999, when he and his brother produced and directed their first feature film - and lost most of their money! Determined to stick with his passion for filmmaking, Gordon started producing and promoting special events. Bad Hair Sketch Comedy Shows and Film Brothers Festival of Shorts have since become staples for people in Wilmington hungry for unique entertainment. Gordon has gained a reputation for selling out venues before the event dates by tying in local businesses and organizations. Gordon’s latest venture is the “Film Brothers Movie CO-OP” in Wilmington’s LOMA, and it is scheduled to open in November. The goal is for the CO-OP to be a hub for business people to collaborate with artists on mutually beneficial projects. Gordon has been married for 3 years and attributes his next level of success to his wife’s ongoing support.

Jeff Schaller comes from a humble upbringing in the country. After graduating somewhere in the middle of his high school class, he left the countryside to attended Beaver College. Graduated with a graphic design degree after the painting professor told him there was no hope in being a professional painter. Fast forward 16 years, married, three kids, he quits his corporate gig 6 years ago and hasn’t looked back. His paintings have been on the hit tv show Friends and Oprah. His work can be seen in local watering holes such as Iron Hill Brewery, and galleries here and abroad.

On March 1, 2010, they handed me an envelope marked "Personal and Confidential." *gulp* That day, I was laid off from my job of almost 5 years. I knew things were bad, but I never saw it coming. I panicked. I drank. I was mad at the world. I cried.

Then, a funny thing happened. I lost my job, but I found myself. It's been a long journey, but it all started that day. Seven months later, I'd like to share five non-obvious, counter-itnutive lessons for hacking a layoff. Whether you've never been downsized or have a drawer full of pink slips, you'll be able to apply my hard-won lessons, cautionary tales and coping mechanisms to your own employment situation.

Have you ever wanted to get away from it all? You know, dump your stuff, leave your obligations, jump on a plane, and wander around a far away place for year or more? My wife and I just came back from a trip like that – the trip of a lifetime in South America. I want to share with you how it came about, how we prepared, what we did, and what we learned.

"Hansei" is one of the cornerstones of Japanese behavior and culture, and it's something we don't really do in America, mostly because we don't have a word in English for it.
"Hansei" is the act of being considerate, and understanding how your actions impact those around you... but it's more than that. People having loud conversations while walking past your bedroom window at 2AM do not hansei. People waiting to get to the front of the fast-food line before figuring out their order do not hansei. It's more than not being an idiot; it's reflecting on yourself and growing from that reflection. It's hard to explain, but explain it, I will! Oh yes!

New Wilmington Art Association was founded by Michael Kalmbach in August of 2008. NWAA enables artists to work, develop, and think through its creative interventions staged in properties throughout the City of Wilmington. This 5 minute talk will highlight the activities of the group while imagining a creative downtown where ideas are tested without permission or invitation.
